Vacation Ends in Tragedy

Divers from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department on Monday morning recovered the body of 55-year Jacques C. Savioe who drowned in the Pemigewasset River Sunday.

Mr, Savoie and wife Debbie (who is the Mason Elementary School head chef and food program) had been boating on the river with their pets when one of the dogs jumped overboard. Mr. Savoie drowned attempting to rescue the dog.

“It is reported that the subject began to struggle and lifejackets were thrown to him but he was not able to get to reach them,” the Marine Patrol said in a press release. “He was seen with the dog on his chest before he slipped below the surface.”

“The dog swam to shore, but he never came up,” New Hampton Fire Chief Michael Drake said of the missing man.

An email from the Mason Elementary school asks to “Please keep her in your thoughts as she deals with the loss of her beloved husband and best friend. If you would like to send her a card her address is Debbie Savoie, 24 David Drive, Hudson, NH 03051.”
