The popular “The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown is the book chosen for the September meeting. This non-fiction book details the events of nine individuals from the American West and their epic quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The coach and eight-oar crew from the University of Washington transformed the sport and grabbed the attention of millions of Americans. Drawing from the boys’ own diaries and journals, Daniel James Brown has created a portrait of an era at the “Nazi Olympics” under Aldof Hitler’s gaze.
